Must-Have Branding Visuals for your Website as an Occupational Therapist
Generally speaking, the basics of standard medical care are widely understood: Routine checkups that include physical exams, bloodwork, light recommendations for lifestyle and nutrition adjustments…
But what about when you work in a specialized field of healthcare?
As an occupational therapist, you carry a heavier responsibility to demonstrate more clearly what you do, how you do it, and most importantly, who you help with your specialization.
Here are three absolute must-have’s for your website as an occupational therapist if you want to stand out, create clarity, and establish trust before a potential patient even picks up the phone to schedule their first appointment.
Client interactions and modality detail shots
While a beautiful headshot helps a patient feel like they know you better, what matters more is how they can expect you to interact with and treat them. Nothing will demonstrate this more clearly than action-based, almost-interactive imagery of you working on a patient. Bonus points if you can showcase different types of patients – a variety of men, women, and cultural backgrounds – so that a potential patient can envision themselves working with you as easily as possible!
Add greater depth and specificity to your website visuals by capturing detail shots (another way of saying close-up shots) of the specific modalities used when treating your patients. Do you have a signature technique or “fan favorite” treatment that gets your patients the best results? Make sure to perform it during your branding session and have your photographer get up close and personal to truly showcase your skillset.
Pro Tip: If you’d like to protect patient privacy and don’t want to highlight existing patients, invite a friend or relative to stand in as your model! But I’m willing to bet that if you’ve developed a strong rapport with a patient who’s experienced great results under your care, they’ll be more than happy to assist you with your branding photoshoot!
Environmental features of space and equipment
Now that you’ve helped the viewer envision themselves under your care, it’s time to show them where the healing “magic” happens. This is where the importance of shooting at your office location comes in. This is your opportunity to highlight the beauty, comfort, and efficiency of your space. Because of your focus as an occupational therapist, there will likely be pieces of equipment that people are less familiar with, so don’t shy away from featuring them. Make them a prominent part of your shoot so that patients can see how knowledgeable you are about the best tools and modalities to help treat their condition.
Specialized services/tools
Finally, this one goes hand-in-hand (no pun intended) with the above point. In the case of Dexterity Hand Therapy, they pride themselves on highly customized splints, personally designed by their highly skilled therapist. When I photographed content for Dexterity Hand Therapy, I took the featuring of these splints to the next level by providing professional video clips that integrated seamlessly into the home page of their website.
What I love most about their practice is: In an already specialized field of physical therapy, they’ve niched even further by seeking to serve creatives who are affected by pain when pursuing their passion. I don’t know about you, but I love the impact of a super-niche!
“I'm an occupational therapist and small business owner, and I hired Adeline to shoot my branding photos for my website. I couldn't be happier with how they turned out. The photos completely elevated the look and feel of my site; it feels so much more professional and aligned with my brand now.”
— Maggie, occupational therapist and owner of Dexterity Hand Therapy
